A well-structured warehouse layout is the foundation of efficient fulfilment. Pixa WMS lets you model your physical space as a hierarchy of zones, aisles, shelves, and individual locations. Once your layout is defined, the smart routing engine uses it to calculate the shortest possible path through the warehouse for every pick list, reducing picker travel time and increasing throughput.
You can start with a flat warehouse — no zones or named locations — and add structure at any time. Pixa WMS will still manage your orders; smart routing becomes available once locations are assigned.

Define Your Warehouse

Open Settings → Warehouse and select the warehouse you want to configure (or create a new one). Build your layout from the top down:

Zones

A zone is the largest division in your warehouse — for example, a dedicated shelving area, a cold storage room, or a bulk goods section. Click Add Zone, give it a descriptive name, and save. You can create as many zones as your physical space requires.

Aisles

Within each zone, add aisles to represent rows of shelving or storage units. Name each aisle with a single letter or short prefix (e.g. A, B, C) so it appears clearly in location codes.

Shelves

Add shelves within each aisle. Number them sequentially from bottom to top (e.g. 01, 02, 03) to match the physical shelf levels in your warehouse.

Locations

A location is the most granular storage slot — a single position on a shelf where one product (or one group of products) is stored. Pixa WMS generates a location code from the parent aisle, shelf, and position number. Location naming convention Use a consistent format so pickers can navigate quickly and unambiguously. Labels printed from Pixa WMS display both the human-readable code and a barcode for scanner use.

Assign Products to Locations

Once your locations are created, link each product to its storage location so the routing engine knows where to direct pickers.
  1. Open Products and search for the product you want to assign.
  2. Click the product to open its detail view, then select Assign Location.
  3. Choose the target location from the dropdown or scan its barcode.
  4. Click Save. The product now appears in route-optimised pick lists at the correct location.
You can assign a product to multiple locations if it overflows onto more than one shelf. The routing engine will direct pickers to the nearest location with sufficient stock for each order.
